Aeration Fort Collins: What is Thatch and Why is It a Problem?

Thatch is a condition that affects some of the lawns here in Northern Colorado. Lawns that were once green take on a brown undertone when affected by thatch. Thatch affects Kentucky bluegrass, which does better in cool weather than in the type of temperatures we get here in summer.

Thatch is brown in color and is a material that grows between the soil and the base of your grass, according to Carl Wilson, a cooperative extension agent from Colorado State University. According to Wilson, most people mistake thatch for soil when they first glance at it. Thatch is a problem because water doesn’t get down to the soil, it runs off to other areas of your lawn instead.

Your local aeration Fort Collins company can help you deal with thatch problems. We will come out and take a look at your lawn for free and let you know if the problem you are having with browning is indeed thatch. We can also recommend fixes, such as aerating your lawn, to rid your yard of thatch
