Fort Collins Tree Care: The Best Way to Water Your Trees

While we love our trees, the Fort Collins environment actually wasn’t really designed to sustain them. We live in an extreme step climate, where except for the species of trees that set up roots near rivers, streams and creek beds, trees have trouble while grasses and shrubs thrive. This is due to one simple element that often goes missing: Water.

Trees require significantly more water than native Colorado grasses. However with the right watering regimen and proper tree care, Fort Collins trees can grow healthy and strong for many years to come.  A rule is to water 1 to 3 times a month with this simple rule. For every inch of your tree trunk’s diameter you should expect to water about 10 gallons, or times the diameter by 5 and that is how many minutes each tree needs to be watered. So if I have a tree with a 10 inch diameter I need to water for 50 minutes.
